(Eleuthera, Bahamas) – The neighbourhood of Betsy Village in Governor’s Harbour, this evening demonstrated the true meaning of community, when they all came together quickly to the aid of the Prescod family, shortly after 5:30 pm.

According to Police Reservist, Mrs. Sonia Gardiner, her mother, Mrs. Laurella Prescod, spotted smoke and fire coming from one of the rear windows of the Prescod home, and soon after, neighbours quickly sprung into action helping to stop the further spread of the fire.

The local fire truck and volunteer firemen, Ricardo Pinder and Sgt. Turnquest, were said to have arrived on the scene less than twenty minutes after they were contacted.  Ultimately, three rooms in the three-bedroom home were badly damaged by the fire, which on sight, seemed to have burnt along the ceilings and upper walls of each affected room.

Eyewitnesses first saw smoke and flames coming from a rear bedroom, which also burnt through ceilings and walls of an adjacent bathroom and hallway area, before the damaging flames were extinguished.

Community spirit in the area was shown to be thriving, as neighbours, after the fire was extinguished, immediately got down to the business of cleaning out the devastated home, and removing furniture from being further destroyed by the water which had settled throughout the home after the dousing.

One adult and three children were said to have been occupying the home, however, witnesses accounted that no one was inside at the time of the fire.
