The Eleuthera District Education Office congratulated the ‘Sentinels’ debate team from Central Eleuthera High School, as well as their coach, Mrs. Davia Smith on their ‘impressive’ win in the national zone round of the debate competition series on Thursday, January 15th, 2026 against the Southern Bahamas.
The team argued the moot, “Be it resolved that The Bahamas should prioritize community-based rehabilitation programs over incarceration for non-violent offenders to reduce recidivism (the tendency of a convicted criminal to reoffend) and promote social reintegration.” The Eleuthera debate champions will now advance to the quarterfinals leg of the National High School Debate Competition.
