Civic Organization Outreach Over the Holidays

The Passing Jack Festival Committee, a civic organization based in Palmetto Point, took part in a holiday giveaway of hams and roaster chickens, which were given to all the elderly within the Palmetto Point community, over the age of 65. Community members, no matter the age, who were either sick or disabled, were also included in the outreach.

Mr. Addison Cooper, president of the Passing Jack Festival Committee, which has a membership of about twenty townspeople, shared that throughout the year, the group, on a regular basis, assists community members over 65 with expenses associated with seeking medical care off of the island.

Donations, he said, are received from a number of people during the year, in support of the work. “We have people from the community who donate. Some donate generously to it. They realize that it’s a worthy cause, and that they want to assist. It’s an ongoing thing. It’s been going on now for about eight or nine years,” said Mr. Cooper.
