(Eleuthera, Bahamas) – A resident of Current in North Eleuthera is expressing exasperation with major Utility Companies, namely; The Bahamas Electricity Corporation (BEC), Bahamas Telecommunication Company (BTC)  and Cable Bahamas Limited. The issue surrounds appallingly overgrown trees that are entangling and overcoming wires in the community.  The situation is described as a “disgrace for the community” which also affects the service residents receive.

In a letter to the editor, the resident speaking for his close-knit community expressed,

“We have given all three corporations adequate time to address this matter.

“We the residents can’t do anything about this because if we cut the trees from the ground it would break the wires because they are all tangled together.

“This is the main road in Current and when the tall trucks come to the boats, they are now hitting and hooking in the trees, breaking the limbs and soon the wires if something isn’t done.”

A quick response to the matter is being sought for the situation that is described as very dangerous, because of the risk of live electrical wires breaking.

“Something needs to happen”, the resident concludes.

To Whom It May Concern:

Please take this as a formal complaint. For far too long the people on the Family Islands (Out Islands) have been neglected by the three major service providers in the country, namely, The Bahamas Electricity Corporation (BEC), Bahamas Telecommunication Company (BTC)  and Cable Bahamas Limited. On numerous occasions we the residents of The Current, Eleuthera have complained about the overgrown trees in the wires, which is not only a disgrace for the community but also affects service.  This is why I have now chosen to go this route. We have given all three corporations adequate time to address this matter. We the residents can’t do anything about this, because if we cut the trees from the ground it would break the wires because they are all tangled together.  This is the main road in Current and when the tall trucks come to the boats, they are now hitting and hooking in the trees, breaking the limbs and soon the wires if something isn’t done. We are looking for a quick response to this matter as this can be very dangerous if the electric wire had to break. Something needs to happen.

Sincerely,

A Concerned Citizen
