The Queen’s Baton Relay, is a relay around the world held prior to the beginning of the Commonwealth Games. It was launched at Buckingham Palace on 9th October 2013, when Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, who is Head of the Commonwealth, placed her message to the Commonwealth into the baton and it was then passed to the first relay runner.
Most recently the Baton made its way around several UK Territories in the Caribbean including, Anguilla, British Virgin Islands and the Turks and Caicos islands. It is headed next to the territory of Bermuda as it continues its route to the 2014 Games in Glasgow.
At the Opening Ceremony of the Games, the final relay runner hands the baton back to the Queen or her representative, who will her message aloud to officially open the Games.
