A 47-year old male suspect is detained in hospital under heavy police guard after he was shot by police moments after he committed an armed robbery on Tuesday 29th October 2013.

According to reports, shortly after 4:00pm, the victim reported to police that a man armed with a shotgun entered her Market Street Convenient store and robbed her of cash before fleeing on foot.

A short while later a police officer on patrol saw the suspect armed with a shotgun in the nearby area, attempting to rob a man of his Mitsubishi vehicle. The suspect on seeing the police officer pointed his gun in the direction of the officer. The officer in fear of his life shot the suspect and was able to recover a shotgun along with the stolen cash.

The suspect was taken to hospital where he is detained in stable condition.

Investigations are ongoing.

328-TIPS (8477) (New Providence) or 300-8476 (Family Islands). A cash reward of up to $1000 is offered by Crime Stoppers for information that leads to an arrest and conviction.
