On Saturday, October 26, 2013, over 400 riders participated in Eleuthera’s annual Ride For Hope. The event brings organizations and individuals from throughout The Bahamas together in support of the national fight against cancer. The Ride for Hope fund supports cancer detection, treatment, research, patient care, and public awareness campaigns.
After five years of participation and many charitable miles spent on his own rusted out beach cruiser, Cape Eleuthera Island School Founder Chris Maxey said, “Ride For Hope brings the Eleuthera’s community together and supports a cause that impacts everyone’s life here.”

Ride For Hope founder Stephen Holowesko thanked all the riders and sponsors for their participation this year and over the past years, stating, “In underwriting our costs, you allow us to ensure that every dollar raised by our riders goes directly to the innovative programs we have started and support to help those fighting cancer in The Bahamas.”
As local Junkanoo performers at the starting line rhythmically sent riders on their way, non-riding students and faculty from the organization joined fans and supporters in cheering. Cape Eleuthera Island School staff member and Ride For Hope participant Annabelle Brooks appreciated the energy of the crowd as she came down the hill rounding her first loop into Governor’s Harbour. “The ride was a fantastic event,” she said: “well organized, fun and for a great cause. I enjoyed seeing our friends from local businesses and organizations, coming together from all over Eleuthera and Nassau to show their support.”
