(Eleuthera, Bahamas) – The Eleuthera Branch of the Cancer Society forged a new partnership on Tuesday, April 9th, 2013, with the Governor’s Harbour Development Association (GHDA), also known as the Anchor Bay Fish Fry Committee – hosts of the renown Friday night Fish Fry in Governor’s Harbour, favoured by locals and tourists alike.

President of the GHDA, Teddy Petty, along with Treasurer, Arthur Turnquest launched the new collaboration with a presentation of a cheque for $2,400 to the Cancer Society, and a pledge to grow the relationship with consistent future contributions.  Juanita Pinder, President of the Eleuthera Cancer Society; Jacquie Gibson, Vice President; Susan Culmer, Treasurer and Maisie Pinder, Office Administrator, were all on hand to accept the generous donation.

In response to the donation, President Juanita Pinder commented, “We are happy to have this partnership because with the efforts we are putting forth on the island, in cancer prevention, cancer care and cancer research, we need more community involvement – so we are happy to have them join us”.  She continued, “This is just the beginning, and we look forward to some great things being done.”

Treasurer Turnquest of the GHDA also expressed, “When we were approached about the idea of partnering with the Cancer Society, we had no doubt in our minds that this was something we wanted to be a part of, so it was just a matter of determining how we could partner.  We see this as a wonderful opportunity, because cancer is something that affects all families.”

The new partners are also excited about working together to raise the awareness of cancer prevention on island, by offering the choice of an alternative ‘healthy’ Fish Fry menu, on some weekends, with further opportunities for patrons to contribute to this very worthy cause.
