An armed suspect was fatally shot when police interrupted an armed robbery in progress on Sunday 2nd September 2012.
Around 3:00am police responded to an armed robbery in progress at the Columbus Primary School playing field, Collins Avenue and observed two men walking on Hampton Street armed with a handgun holding a male victim hostage.
As police approached the men, one of the suspects raised and pointed a handgun at the officers. Police fearing for their life and the life of the victim fatally wounded the armed suspect, who died at the scene.
The other suspect fled on foot. Police also recovered a handgun at the scene.
HM Coroner visited the scene.
