UPDATE: (Thursday, September 5th, 2019)

The Minister of Education wishes to advise the general public that all government schools in the Commonwealth of The Bahamas (except those in Abaco and Grand Bahama) will re-open on Monday, September 9th, 2019 at the usual time. All staff members are expected to report for duty.

UPDATE: (Tuesday, September 3rd, 2019)

On Tuesday, September 3rd, 2019, the following update was announced by the Ministry of Education with reference to school closures:

“The Minister of Education has announced the following with respect to public school closures and the opening of Ministry of Eduction buildings:

All public schools will remain closed until further notice.  This includes those on the islands of New Providence, Eleuthera, Andros, Cat Island , San Salvador, Rum Cay, Exuma, Long Island, Mayaguana, Acklins, Crooked Island, and Inagua.

The Cabinet Office has advised that all Government Offices will open today, Tuesday 3rd September, 2019.  Therefore, all Ministry of Education staff, including professional and support staff located at headquarters, libraries and satellite locations are expected to report to work today as regularly scheduled.  This includes staff on the islands of New Providence, Eleuthera, Andros, Cat Island, San Salvador, Rum Cay, Exuma, Long Island, Mayaguana, Acklins, Crooked Island, and Inagua.

The public is advised to continue to follow the local media, and the Ministry of Education’s website and Facebook page for future announcements and updates.”

The Minister of Education has announced the following with respect to the opening of schools throughout The Bahamas.

Schools in New Providence, Eleuthera, Andros, Abaco & Surrounding Cays, Grand Bahama, Bimini and the Berry Islands, are closed until further notice.  All other schools will open on Wednesday at regular time.

Administrators, Teachers, Support Staff on other islands are to report to school tomorrow and Tuesday to prepare schools for Wednesday.
