The Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF), Officer in Charge (OIC) Christopher Wright announced recently that authorities, responding to a trend of people in possession of shotgun and rifle firearms not renewing their licenses, will implement a new policy as it relates to these firearms.
All firearms licenses expire on December 31st each year, said the OIC. Members of the public will have a 14 day grace period from January 1st to 14th, during which, an additional late fee of $50 will be charged.
After the grace period expires, anyone found to be in possession of an unlicensed firearm will be prosecuted before the courts for being in possession of that unlicensed firearm, and additionally will have their license revoked. He encouraged people to make application for their license renewal as soon as possible.
The regular license fee for a shotgun is $150 and $300 for a rifle.
