The Eleuthera Basketball Association (EBA) hosted a season opening game on Tuesday night, November 10th, 2015, in Harbour island at 7:30 pm with last season champions, the Harbour Island Panthers vs. runners up, the Governor’s Harbour Hawks.
Sherwin Major, new EBA President, also announced recently that former national coach with the Bahamas Basketball Federation and Bahamas National Hall of Famer, Mr. Sharon Storr, will be in Eleuthera to facilitate a Level 1 certification course for coaches in basketball beginning on Thursday, November 12th until Saturday, November 14th, 2015 in Governor’s Harbour. On Thursday evening the session begins at 5pm until 8pm. On Friday an all-day session begins at 11am up until 5pm, and on Saturday an afternoon session will be held from 2pm until 6pm.
Also, on Saturday, November 14th at 7:30 pm, a special opening ceremony will be held for the 2015/2016 basketball season, where Mr. Andre Butler of Governor’s Harbour who headed up the Eleuthera Basketball Association (EBA) as President since 1993 will be honoured for his 22 years of service. Mr. Butler passed on the baton of leadership to Sherwin Major, a Physical Education teacher with the Central Eleuthera High School, in August of 2015, however, Mr. Butler continues to be involved, now serving as Public Relations and Duty Commissioner with the EBA’s leadership team.
Mr. Butler further commented that the Bahamas Basketball Federation now requires all coaches to be certified to ensure a consistent standard of play for all teams.
