(Eleuthera, Bahamas) – Police and Immigration in Eleuthera were on Friday morning, processing a group of illegal Haitian Immigrants, apprehended after the illegal landing of a smuggling vessel in the Double Bay area of Savannah Sound in Central Eleuthera.
According to local authorities, shortly after 10pm on Thursday, March 12, 2015, a resident in the Double Bay area, between Palmetto Point and Savannah Sound, contacted Police, saying that there were several persons who appeared to be Haitian nationals walking in the area.
Royal Bahamas Police Force officers, along with Immigration officers responded to that area, where searches were conducted. 46 Haitian nationals were found and detained; four females and forty two males, with the youngest being just 15 yrs old. The transporting vessel was also recovered in the Double Bay area.
On Friday morning, March 13th, 2015, the group of illegal immigrants were processed at Workers House, before being transferred to the detention center in New Providence.
