(Eleuthera, Bahamas) – Further to the initial report of the American visitor, who died as a result of an accident out at sea in South Eleuthera on Thursday March 5th, 2015, The Eleutheran has learned the following: According to a report given by his female companion to police, on Thursday 5th March, 2015 sometime around 8:00am her 34yr old boyfriend left her on his sailboat which was anchored in the vicinity of the Schooner Cays off Cape Eleuthera to go kite boarding. She informed police that he was kite boarding for about two (2) hours when suddenly his red kite crashed into the water approximately a quarter mile from the sail boat. She reported responding immediately via a dinghy boat and arriving to his aid about ten (10) minutes later where she met him lying on his back; bleeding profusely from a wound she saw to his inner right leg. The injured man reportedly told her at that time, that he had been hit by a sting ray.
The couple returned to the sailboat where she placed a mayday call and informed the operator of the location of the sail boat and what had happened to her boyfriend. She reported seeing the response team about 45 minutes later and allowed four men to board the vessel, where they rendered medical assistance to him. A short time later they arrived at the Cape Eleuthera Marina and from there, he was then transported to the Rock Sound clinic.
According to The Island School, that organization received a mayday call at about 10:45am from the man’s companions and responded with medical personnel in a boat to the Schooner Cays. “Despite the best efforts of our staff and those of the local doctor, nurses, and medical team at the Rock Sound Clinic who responded in stabilizing, treating and attempting to resuscitate the patient, the young man has passed away,” said Christian Henry of the Island School.
“In this moment, our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of this young person,” he added in a communication on the morning of the incident.
The victim was later transported to New Providence for autopsy. Police say that investigations are ongoing.
