The Bahamas Telecommunications Company, (BTC) has announced, that it is on schedule with its course of delivering television services to the island of Bimini before the end of the year.
CEO Leon Williams said, “BTC will be the first company to deliver television services to many sparsely populated islands in The Bahamas, notwithstanding that Cable Bahamas has had a license to provide television services to the entire country since 1995. For years, BTC has delivered landline, internet and mobile services to the entire Bahamas, regardless of the cost or profit.”
Williams continued, “BTC is a company for all Bahamians, not just Bahamians who live on densely populated islands. As the national telecommunications provider, we believe it is equally important to ensure that we provide services to these islands. BTC has never been a company that bases its business cases solely on profits. We will not launch television services in New Providence, until we provide services to residents in the Family Islands that have been neglected for almost twenty years.”
Over the last several months, BTC has received overwhelming requests from residents in these underserved islands, and in New Providence to provide television. BTC intends to rollout television services, early next year to all Family Islands where television services are not being provided.
The company is gearing up to provide television services in Bimini which has been promised to be piloted on that island before December 31st. The pilot launch in Bimini, is intended to allow the residents to trial the services, free of charge ahead of the upcoming commercial launch. BTC’s technical teams are on the ground in Bimini, completing the final upgrades, to ensure that it delivers flawless television services.
Packaging and pricing promises to be very attractive. BTC will provide more channels and features, at prices lesser than the current television provider. As a part of its offering BTC will provide video on demand, combined with DVR, music channels, and its own BTC television channel.
BTC’s television offer is a part of the company’s $65m investment to upgrade its existing networks, and enhance its ability to provide new services on its platforms. As the national telecommunications company, BTC offers a full suite of ultra-modern landline, broadband, mobile and soon to come, television services.
