(Eleuthera, Bahamas) Over the Labour Day weekend,  three Eleuthera students from Gregory Town who achieved the highest grade point averages (G.P.A.) in their schools, were recognized at the opening ceremony of the Pineapple Festival by the Gregory Town Development Association.  The Association honored the three outstanding students from the settlement, in an effort to encourage them to continue to strive for excellence.

These outstanding students (Kristy Johnson, Kayla Carey and Vernelle Rolle, pictured above) hailed from the following schools: Central Eleuthera High School, Gregory Town Primary School (Graduate), and North Eleuthera High, respectively. The students were presented with laptop computers, courtesy of Mr. Sidney Torres, owner and manager of The Cove Eleuthera. The Association has said that it is committed to honoring the outstanding students in the community annually, and will also embark on various projects to enhance the community, such as the construction of a Community Center.

The Association has also shared that it has taken up the mandate to build the community of Gregory Town, Eleuthera. It is in their effort to empower the residents of this endearing settlement, that the Association has started to honour those who have contributed to the community. Last year, in tandem with the 40th Independence Celebrations, the Association hosted an honourary ceremony for various persons who have left an indelible mark on the community. Those honoured included Mr. Clarence Gibson, Ms. Betty Thompson, Mr. and Mrs. Kenrick Murray and Ms. Olga Thompson, all of whom were either former teachers or community activists.
