Pictured above are the team of student athletes and coaches from across Eleuthera who will be in Nassau next weekend to represent the island at the World Relays Jr. event – being called “One Island, One Lane”, which takes places as a part of the IAAF World Relays Nassau meet. On Saturday May 17th, 2014 the group received gifts of a T-Shirt, Polo Shirt and Water Bottles from the One Eleuthera Foundation. Pictured (L-R) are: Coach Butler, Coach Ramnarine, Coach Thompson, Safyha Bryan (CEHS), Coach Mackey, Astranique Gardiner (CEHS), Joel Wells (HIAAS), Aaron Cox (NEHS), Juan Cassius Armbrister (PHAHS), One Eleuthera’s Robyn Curry, Chantal Calixte (CEHS), Tyler Leary (PHAHS), Nijah Bastian (CEHS), Rashad Cartwright (NEHS), Trenique Hall (PHAHS), Angelo Joseph (NEHS), James Joseph (NEHS) and coach Major.
Other Eleuthera athletes resident overseas are also expected to join the team in New Providence.
The students, ranging in grades from 10 to 12 on Saturday, May 17th, did their 4x100m practice drills in the pouring rain on the (yet again) overgrown ‘track’. Lanes that are typically marked by sand are at this point, mostly visible only to the imagination. In their sessions they took turns sharing two starting blocks.
