(The Bahamas) – Police in a press release on Wednesday evening August 14th, 2013 specifically sent a strong warning to criminals breaking into the homes of residents at night that they will be dealt with and brought to justice.

They also advised members of the public to remain vigilant by:

  • Reporting any suspicious behavior to police, especially people looking in  and lurking around houses at night.
  • Ensuring home alarm systems are activated at all times, even while at home.
  • Deterring culprit(s) by leaving their outside light on.
  • Ensuring that their windows and doors are locked before they retire to bed at night.

The information accompanied a request by police for assistance in solving a recent burglary and armed robbery in New Providence:

**POLICE REQUEST PUBLIC’S HELP IN SOLVING A RECENT BURGLARY AND ARMED ROBBERY**
Police are requesting the public’s help in locating two male suspects responsible for a
burglary and armed robbery that occurred on Tuesday 13th August, 2013.
According to reports, an Eastern Road couple was at home around 4:30 a.m. when two
masked men armed with a handgun force their way into their residence, held them at bay
and demanded cash. The men robbed the couple of electronic items, jewelry, and an
undetermined amount of cash and fled the scene.
Police are asking anyone with information regarding this incident to contact police
at 919, or if you wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 328- TIPS (New
Providence) or 300-8476 (Family Islands)

 

It’s worth noting that this criminal act in New Providence happened at about the same time of an unrelated yet similar Burglary/Attempted Sexual Assault  in Eleuthera.
