(Eleuthera, Bahamas) – The much talked about construction of a Mini-Hospital complex in Central Eleuthera took a step closer to getting started today, as Member of Parliament for Central and South Eleuthera, Damian Gomez, along with Administrator for Central Eleuthera, Charles King officially posted a ‘Declaration of Intended Acquisition’ document on the public notice board at the Administrator’s Office in Governor’s Harbour for all to see.
The document identifies two tracts of property totalling 29.26acres. More specifically, 26.04 acres (Tract no. 1) said to be owned currently by Phillip Bethel and 3.22 acres (Tract no. 2).
The property is located on left, past Keddy Culmer’s business in Palmetto Point, in the direction of the main intersection. It is north of the Queens Highway and West of the road in North Palmetto Point. Maps are provided in the notices posted.
According to Minister Gomez this documentation now allows the government to access the land outlined in the declaration. He went on to explain that the next step towards the Mini-Hospital becoming an actuality for the Eleuthera population is preparation of bidding documents and the publication of the contract being put out to tender to invite bids, which will be done by the National Insurance Board.
About timing for this next step, Gomez shared, “Hopefully this phase of moving forward will be much shorter than what we have had to go through to get as far as we have with the acquisition… I anticipate that we will soon start, and would finish within 18 months to 2 years… I am resolute to make sure that this happens and that it happens as quickly as is humanly possible within the confines of the speed with which government works.”
Administrator Charles King also commented, saying that any member of the public, who wishes to review the ‘Declaration of Intended Acquisition’ document, is invited to take a look at the copy made available on the public notice board or visit the Administrator’s Office to review.
