THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FROM 9:30 AM EDT UNTIL 11:30 AM TUESDAY 09TH JULY 2013.
A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR THE ISLANDS OF CAT ISLAND, ELEUTHERA AND EXUMA AND THEIR ADJACENT WATERS.
A SEVERE WEATHER WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR BERRY ISLANDS, SOUTH ABACO AND NEW PROVIDENCE.
AT 9:20 AM OBSERVATION, RADAR AND SATELLITE IMAGERY SHOWED CLUSTERS OF THUNDERSTORMS IN ASSOCIATION WITH AN UPPER LEVEL LOW MOVING WESTWARD ACROSS THE BAHAMAS.
SOME OF THESE THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE SEVERE AT TIMES CAUSING STRONG GUSTY WINDS, DANGEROUS LIGHTNING, HEAVY DOWNPOURS, HAIL AND POSSIBLE WATERSPOUT OR TORNADIC ACTIVITY.
BOATERS IN THE WARNING AREA SHOULD SEEK SAFE HARBOUR AND RESIDENTS IN THE WARNING AREA SHOULD STAY INDOORS AND AWAY FROM WINDOWS WHEN CONDITIONS WORSEN.
RESIDENTS IN LOW LYING AND FLOOD PRONE AREAS SHOULD PROTECT LIFE AND PROPERTY DUE TO LOCALIZED FLOODING. RESIDENTS SHOULD NOT SEEK SHELTER UNDER TREES OR IN WATER AS THESE CAN BECOME LIGHTENING CONDUCTORS
BOATERS AND RESIDENTS IN THE WATCH AREA SHOULD CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE SYSTEM AND BE PREPARED TO SEEK SAFE HARBOUR AND MOVE IN DOORS AND AWAY FROM WINDOWS AS CONDITIONS WORSENS.
