(Hatchet Bay, Eleuthera) – Family and Friends of Mr. Ryan McCardy, came together on Unit 2 Beach on the Atlantic coast of Hatchet Bay, on Saturday, June 1st, 2013 at 10am in remembrance of the young man who went missing after a boating accident just off shore on May 5th, 2013.

It was a lovely memorial service, officiated by Monsignor John T. Johnson of St Catherine’s Catholic Church in Hatchet Bay.  Fitting tributes were paid to Ryan, who was remembered in particular for his infectuous smile, kindness and hard working yet playful nature.  He was remembered in tales, song and poetry before family and friends made their way to the water’s edge to cast wreaths and release balloons for their loved one.

As Monsignor Johnson commented after the ceremony, part of the survivor’s story not reported by media before, was that Ryan had made it back to the rocky shoreline safely but had gone back to help Mr. Johnson Blanc. Both men went missing on that day.

Ryan McCardy, was remembered as the ‘youngest’ person in the community with a contractor’s license. He  for the most part, constructed his own home and had discussed with friends, a desire to build a family reflective of his parents (pre-deceased).
