NASSAU, The Bahamas – The Bahamas Department of Meteorology has issued alerts for swimmers and boaters as tide rises with the possibility of rip currents.
Swimmers should be alert for dangerous rip currents and high surf conditions along the north and east coast beaches, the department said Wednesday, May 29, 2013.
A broad area of moist unstable air mass continues to spread over the Northwest and Central Bahamas.
For Northwest and Central Bahamas, the weather is cloudy to overcast conditions with widespread rain becoming thundery at times into tonight.
For boaters, small craft advisory is in effect.
Winds are east to southeast from 20 to 25 knots and running six to nine feet.
In the Southeast Bahamas, the weather, cloudy to overcast with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms. Small craft advisory is in effect with winds 15 to 25 knots with seas running 5 to 8 feet.
Gusty winds and high seas during showers or thunderstorm are expected in all areas.
