A Tuesday afternoon and night of rain and thunderstorms in Eleuthera has brought much needed relief to many residents facing a continuous onslaught of smoke from the many bush fires on the island for several weeks. Without resources to adequately fight the bush fires the bellowing smoke simply shifted with the winds.
Big Fires had been burning in Governor’s Harbour – just north of French Leave’s beach property, in Upper and Lower Bogue in the north and at Deep Creek in the south. There were also several smaller spots around the island were fires were being an annoyance to home owners and the charred landscape was growing daily.
Today Wednesday May 22nd, reports out of North Eleuthera are that the smoldering which was stubborn in the afternoon on Tuesday appeared to have relented overnight. In Central and South Eleuthera the story is very much the same – the heavy overnight rain managed to provide a morning free of smoke.
