Governor General Sir Arthur Foulkes and Lady Foulkes will leave for Japan Friday, May 10th, 2013, for a private visit as the guests of Campbell Shipping Company Ltd. During Sir Arthur’s absence former House of Assembly Speaker the Hon. Oswald Ingraham will act as Deputy to the Governor General.
Their Excellencies will be accompanied to Japan by Mr. Lowell J. Mortimer, President of the company, and will visit Tokyo and Imabari.
During the visit to Imabari, Lady Foulkes will name and launch the Motor Vessel C/S Jaden which is the latest dry bulk carrier to be managed by Campbell Shipping and will add an additional 38,000 DWT to the Shipping Registry of The Bahamas.
The new ship will join Campbell’s current fleet of 15. Imabari is one of the largest shipbuilding companies in the world and the Company is known for the quality of its ships’ construction.
The contract for the C/S Jaden was signed at the Balmoral Club in October 2011 by Mr. Mortimer, President of Jaden Shipping Company Limited, and the executives of Itochu Corporation of Japan.
While in Japan, Sir Arthur and Lady Foulkes will take part in various tours including the Imperial Palace and a Chano-Vu (tea ceremony). They will also travel via Bullet Train to Hiroshima for a visit to the A-bomb Dome and Peace Memorial Park. Their Excellencies are expected to return to The Bahamas on May 19.
