The Harbour Island Panthers defeated the Police Enforcers in game 4 of the Eleuthera Basketball Association’s (EBA) Championship series, 95 to 89, to clinch the 2013 title  on Thursday night, April 4th, 2013

It was a tight match up to the last few moments of the fourth quarter when the Panthers began to pull away, giving themselves the confidence boost needed to hold on until the final buzzer pronounced them the new EBA Champions. The victory gave the Panthers a unassailable  3-1 lead in the 5 game series.

Series summary:

  • Game 1:  Panthers 73 – Enforcers 56
  • Game 2:  Enforcers 63 – Panthers 57
  • Game 3:  Panthers 81 – Enforcers 68
  • Game 4:  Panthers 95 – Enforcers 89

Top scorers on the evening for the Police Enforcers were Clint Walker with 29 points, Jamel Henfield with 15 points and 11 rebounds, and Drexal Smith with 14 points. 

Top performers with the victorious Panthers were Edwar Davis with 30 points, K.C. Sawyer with 23 points and Rino Saunders with 16 points and 8 rebounds.

The Harbour Island Panthers will now go on to compete in the National Round Robin Basketball Tournament being held this year on April 11th in Freeport, Grand Bahama.

Playoff Summary

Of the nine teams (Tarpum Bay Takers, JC Skywalkers, Hatchet Bay Potcakes, Office General Kings, Cupid’s Cay Runners, Lower Bogue Tigers, Police CrimeStoppers, Harbour Island Panthers, and the Police Enforcers) which participated in the normal EBA season, only the top six made it to the Playoff rounds. 

In round one, the Office General Kings beat out the Cupid’s Cay Runners 2 to 0 and the Lower Bogue Tigers overcame the Police Crime-Stoppers 2 to 1.  Round two saw the Police Enforcers crush the Office General Kings in 3 to 0, while Harbour Island Panthers held their own against Lower Bogue, winning 3 games to 1, leaving the Enforcers and the Panthers to square off in the Championship series.

Upcoming

The Eleuthera Basketball Association is also planning to host an Independence Tournament in July in celebration of the Bahamas’ 40th anniversary.

The EBA’s Development and Summer League play for under 17 and under 13 will begin shortly after high school final examinations are completed.  Regular season play for the EBA will resume once again in November 2013.

Softball season action with the Eleuthera Softball Association (ESA) is also set to begin at the end of April 2013.
