Statement Feburary 6th, 2013: Yesterday, I signed an order amending the regulations pursuant to the Immigration Act to bring into force new fees for consultants who work for the Public Hospitals Authority. This became necessary following a letter from the Medical Council which pointed out that licences for the doctors who work for the PHA cannot lawfully be issued without the concurrence of the Minister for Immigration.
The new fee structure is as follows:
- Free for those who work as consultants full time with the Authority.
- Half the fee for those who work outside the Authority. The order came into effect on 5th February. Half the applicable fee is $4500 per annum.
Accordingly all foreign consultant physicians at the PHA should apply for work permits and pay the fee which applied prior to their applying to the Medical Council for their licence to practice.
This new regime was done in consultation with the Minister of Health.
