(Eleuthera, Bahamas) – For the third consecutive year, Deep Creek celebrated the New Year with a Junkanoo Rushout on the evening of January 1st, 2013.  Quite a large crowd turned out to enjoy the small but energetic junkanoo group whose theme was “Protecting our Waters”.  The banner float was a tribute to the Bahamian patrol boat “HMBS Flamingo” which was sunk, without provocation, by the Cuban air force in May of 1980.  Four Defence Force marines were killed (external link).  The back of the banner showcased protected species of Bahamian waters such as the turtle and grouper.  Rushers wore crepe paper pasted military uniforms.
