An Official Ground Breaking ceremony is scheduled for Monday November 26th, 2012

(Governor’s Harbour, Eleuthera, Bahamas)  The Eleuthera Chamber of Commerce in partnership with Mr. Eddie Lauth, French Leave and The Shaner Group welcomed a capacity audience at a  mix and mingle and Presentation of the French Leave Marina Project held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at Sunset Inn, Governors Harbour, Eleuthera.

It was a more measured Mr. Lauth, who addressed the audience, at what he described as a “little premature time”, giving an update on the French Leave project, in the works for several years, yet very much, physically, at its infancy stage.  He described some of the frustration of the past four years, with a surprising discovery that as much as 240 acres of the 270 acre property were in “defect property title” status. Compounding the frustration was that the discovery was made during the sale process, as he put it, “The process of selling property had already started”  …“at prices that rivaled Harbour Island.” He took this opportunity to note that French Leave will be “what Harbour island should be.”

About the current status he told the room,  “There are no promises,” adding “We are doing everything we can.”

“We have secured the property, the property is entitled, We’ve broken ground and the Shaner Hotel Group is pursuing additional options for the property.”
Lauth explained, “Their [The Shaner Hotel Group] goal is to build 37 single detached authentic Bahamian cottages, a bar and grill right on the sea front, a pool, a pool pavillion,  a new marina slip… designed for maybe 2 or 3 mega yachts”

“I can tell you that millions of dollars are already committed, many, many millions of dollars, so we’re making this effort.”

He pointed out that some work is currently ongoing at the dock, which Mr. Lauth said was damaged by Hurricane Sandy and  underground utilities are being installed. The property, he said, is already outfitted with electricity.

The Development Group has met with the new government and according to Mr. Lauth they were very pleased with the meeting – describing it as, “Refreshing” .
While sounding committed, and optimistic, his mode was one of limiting his promises, while still having an air of confidence that this new group will get the project done.

“The Shaner Hotel Group has a tremendous track record in Hotels, they have a tremendous track record with Capital [and]  with partnerships,”  he told the attentive room .

“We are committed 100% to making the best effort.”
