Update: (10:15pm – Wednesday, October 16th, 2019)

Police in Harbour Island confirmed that the fire was partially contained, and estimated that the blaze was expected to be fully contained within the hour.  Three stone structures were reported to have been destroyed by the fire – two single-story buildings, and one two-story structure.


Original Story: (8:30pm – Wednesday, October 16th, 2019)

Police confirmed shortly after 8pm on Wednesday, October 16th, 2019, that several buildings were ablaze on Harbour Island.

The fire was said to have started at the ‘Briland On The Go’ gas station and convenience store location, and quickly spread to surrounding homes and buildings.

Police in Harbour Island said that the entire community had come together and were trying to assist with the flames, which were described as having totally engulfed the ‘Briland On The Go’ building.  Police also stated that a fire truck on the island was currently engaged in combating the fire.

Volunteers with the fire truck from North Eleuthera, also communicated that they were attempting to transport the truck to Harbour Island to assist with the blaze, which could be clearly seen from across the bay, on Three Island Dock.  (See aerial view and video below)
