(Nassau, Bahamas)  Mr. Phenton Neymour, former Member of Parliament and Cabinet Minister with the Free National Movement, passed away on Monday, July 23rd, 2018.  The following message of condolence was released by the Bahamas Cabinet Office:

The Cabinet Office announces with sadness the death of Mr. Phenton Neymour on Monday 23rd July, 2018.

Mr. Neymour was elected to the House of Assembly in 2007 as the representative for the constituency of South Beach.  In 2007 he was appointed Minister of State Public Utilities in the Ministry of Works and in 2008 Minister of State for the Environment.  A native of Exuma,

he was an engineer by profession.  Mr. Neymour was an active Trade Unionist, serving for 9 years as the President of the Water & Sewerage Corporation’s Management Union and 6 years as Assistant Secretary General of The Bahamas Trade Union Trade Congress.

He was responsible for the official recognition of the Water & Sewerage Corporation Management Union and will be remembered for the realization of its first Industrial Agreement.

Mr. Neymour was actively involved with Bahamian youth as sponsor and advisor to youth programmes, like the Junior Achievers and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc, as sponsor for both men and women’s softball teams; as Director and Vice President of The Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year Foundation; and as coach in the Freedom Farm baseball league.

The Prime Minister and the Cabinet extend sincere condolences to his mother, wife and four children.”

Brief Biography of Mr. Phenton Neymour:

Phenton Neymour, served as the Member of Parliament (M.P.) for the South Beach constituency following the May 2, 2007 general election. Mr. Neymour was sworn in as Minister of State for Public Utilities by His Excellency the Hon. Arthur D. Hanna Governor-General on May 14, 2007.  In a Cabinet shuffle in July 2008, he was appointed Minister of State for The Environment.

He was born in Steventon, Exuma on September 3, 1964 to Basil and Ena Neymour.

He graduated from St Paul’s College, Freeport 1980 and Queen’s College, Nassau 1982. He obtained a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, with a minor in Mathematics and a Master of Science in Environmental Engineering with a minor in Business Administration from Syracuse University, New York. He also received a Master in Business Administration degree from The University of Miami.

In addition, Mr. Neymour had over 15 years flying experience with both American and British pilot licenses and rating.

A former officer of the Coalition for Democratic Reform (CDR), Mr. Neymour was also involved in the trade union movement serving as president of the Water and Sewage Corporate Management Union and as the Assistant Secretary General of The Bahamas Trade Union Congress (TUC).

He also served as president of Development of The Bahamas Primary School Students of the Year Foundation having previously served as a director.

Mr. Neymour worshiped at Christ Church Cathedral and was married to the former Cutelle Mikula. He has four children.
